The Destination

Sardinia & Corsica

Sardinia and Corsica offer some of the most dramatic sailing in the Mediterranean. Our 7-day route takes you from Olbia through the La Maddalena archipelago — a UNESCO-protected national park — across the Strait of Bonifacio to Corsica's Lavezzi Islands, with stops at hidden coves, thalasso spas, and local wine cellars.

Sardinia is one of the world's five Blue Zones, and every meal on board reflects this tradition of longevity-focused cuisine. The water clarity in La Maddalena has to be seen to be believed — turquoise, transparent, and often completely untouched by other boats.

Vincent's Take on Sardinia & Corsica

The Strait of Bonifacio in the afternoon light — that crossing never gets old. One moment you're in Italy, the next you're somewhere that feels ancient and completely different. That's the thing about this route: it has a rhythm that builds across the week.

Insider Stops

Cala Granara, La Maddalena

Arrive before 10am. By midday the bay fills up. Early morning it's just you, the water, and a few curious fish.

Tavolara Island

Stop at the small osteria on the waterfront for mussels. They come straight from the lagoon. Order the bruschetta too.

Bonifacio, Corsica

Walk up into the citadel in the evening when the day-trippers have left. Dinner at Le Voilier — ask for a table outside.

Lavezzi Islands

The snorkelling on the eastern side of Île Lavezzi is unlike anything else on this route. Bring the underwater camera.

Porto Cervo Waterfront

A morning coffee watching the superyachts is free. Save the restaurants for the smaller bays — better food, half the price.

Planning Your Trip

Best Time to Sail Sardinia & Corsica

June

Peak Season

Warm seas, steady Mistral from the north. Bays still quiet before the crowds arrive.

July

Peak Season

Full summer conditions. Hot, blue, and busy. Book early — spots fill in January.

Aug

High Season

Warmest water of the year. Popular bays crowded at anchor — arrive early or sail further.

Sept

Best Value

Our favourite month. Warm sea, calmer winds, emptier bays. The crowds have gone home.

Oct

Shoulder

Cooler evenings, changeable wind. Still very sailable. Fewer options for shore dining.

May

Early Season

Spring colours and no queues. Sea temperature around 18°C — refreshing rather than warm.

Practical note —Olbia Airport (OLB) is the most convenient arrival point — 20 minutes from the marina. We always start and end in Olbia. For the Bonifacio crossing, we monitor weather closely; if conditions are rough we route through the calmer western passage instead.

Thanks to Vince and Laila for our wonderful experience. The food was outstanding. The time taken to show our son how sailing works was a special time for him. We can't wait to be back planning the next trip.
