Seven days through the British Virgin Islands on steady trade winds and warm water — the recorded track of one real week. A new island every hour: the granite grottoes of The Baths at Virgin Gorda, the reefs off Norman Island, the gin-clear shallows of North Sound, the beach bars of Jost Van Dyke. Short hops between anchorages, snorkelling straight off the boat, and long warm evenings — a winter’s week away from the cold.

We slip out of Wickham's Cay under full sun and turn south for Norman Island, the whole channel opening up ahead. Anchor in The Bight, snorkel into the sea caves cut into the cliffs, then settle in for a first slow sunset over water that barely moves.
A short morning hop to The Indians, four rock pinnacles where the coral rises almost to the surface and the snorkeling is some of the clearest in the chain. Then across to Peter Island for a barbecue on the sand and yoga ashore as the light drops.
East to Virgin Gorda and The Baths, a maze of granite boulders the size of houses, half-flooded into grottoes and pale-green pools. You wade, duck and scramble through the passages between them to reach the soft sand of Devil's Bay on the far side.
Round the top of Virgin Gorda into North Sound, a wide bay held inside a ring of islands and reef. A slow day by design: swim off the boat, snorkel the shallows, a treatment ashore, and long stretches of doing very little at all.
West along the islands, pausing at Monkey Point to drift over shoals of silver fish, then the long reach to Jost Van Dyke. Scramble up to the Bubbly Pool, where the swell surges through the rocks into a natural hot tub, and end on the white sand of the bay.
Back to Tortola and Cane Garden Bay, a long sweep of palm-backed beach under a steep green hillside. Paddleboard along the shore, hike up for the view over the anchorage, and unroll the mat on the sand at first light. Turtles graze the seagrass off the bow.
The last leg curves around the west end of Tortola and back down the channel, with one final swim and lunch at anchor before the marina comes into view around four. Lines ashore at Wickham's Cay, salt still in your hair, and a farewell dinner in Road Town.
